Romans 13:1-7

1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

1 Peter 2:17

17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

They want no authority.

Matthew 5:25,26

25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

We have three witnesses here in regard to man’s responsibility in regard to the law.

Jesus in Matthew reminds us that the judge and the officer are authorized to place us in prison if our legal entanglements cannot be settled out of court.

The Apostle Peter informs us we are to honor the king. Many today protest declaring “No King”. Well, we do not have a king nor is anyone aspiring to be one. The problem with these protestors is they will not submit to any authority. Dishonoring the king in those days could lead you to the guillotine. Refusing to honor and respect the authority in our precincts today can and should lead to prosecution and whatever punishment has been established for the offender who is found guilty. A lawless society is unsustainable.

Finally, the Apostle Paul clearly sets out the rules in reference to an individual’s response to the law.

Be Subject Unto

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers.

Subject-Greek: to arrange under, to subordinate, to subject, put in subjection, to subject one's self, obey, to submit to one's control, to yield to one's admonition or advice, to obey, be subject

This word was a Greek military term meaning "to arrange [troop divisions] in a military fashion under the command of a leader". In non-military use, it was "a voluntary attitude of giving in, cooperating, assuming responsibility, and carrying a burden".

I think we get the idea.

WHY?

These powers are ordained of God. Resisters fight God and attract God’s damnation. Only the evil doers should fear governmental authority. Do gooders get the commendations, awards and recognition from the established authorities.

Your Pastor is not the only minister of God. Law enforcement is armed for a reason. He is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

Be subject to avoid the wrath of the law and to have a clear conscience of doing what is right.

Fund the Police

6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: In our case taxes.

And for the third time they are called God’s ministers. For this cause they are out there 24/7 doing God’s work.

Pay your taxes, fund the police, fear the power of the law, and honor those who uphold it.

Reminder

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

And now a word from Pastor Shirley

We were able to collect enough money to purchase a new dress for the widows in the care of our ministry partners in India for Christmas. Thank you to all who were able to donate. May God continue to bless you as you give.

You are Often In My Thoughts

Love is a command

That Christians are called to do;

Our Lord says "Love your God,

And love your neighbor, too."

Some people are easy to love;

They are human rays of sun;

They light up every life,

And encourage everyone.

You are in that group,

So I sincerely want to say:

You are often in my thoughts;

Happy Valentine's Day!
